It's Independence Day, the Fourth of July, America's birthday!
I'll be away with some friends to celebrate, so I leave you today with just a few links:
~Read up on the Declaration of Independence, born on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Today, it will be read aloud in public as it was 230 years ago in that same place.
~See Independence Hall, where the founding fathers signed the Declaration and, later, the Constitution. Here's the historic room where it all happened. Yes, I've been there recently, and yes, it's always worth a visit!
~Read up on the American Revolution. July 4, 1776, was only the beginning. The prize-winning 2005 book 1776 is on my personal list of thing to read.
~Tired of reading? Try some video from the History Channel!
Ah, Fourth of July! A time for fireworks, friends, lots of outdoor activities, and, of course, lots of good food, especially ice cream and barbecue! (I will be cooking!! I have put barbecue chicken with honey glaze on my menu to make, along with some pork ribs. There will also be plenty of salad -- with lots of arugula, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, homemade dressing -- and my famous blueberry pie . . .)
