Smart Cars = Car Love!
My car-loving Sibling sent me this news article: Daimler Chrysler will market the Smart car in the US!
Those of you who are in Europe or have been there know what I'm talking about. I *love* Smart cars. They are absolutely the cutest little autos I've ever seen! (I'm talking about the tiny 2-person model. The 4-person version is kind of . . . ugly.) I first saw Smart cars in Rome, where I saw people park them on the sidewalks.
Here's the official international Smart car website. So cute! Too bad the cars are expensive. I would happily get one if I could. Maybe in the future. The thing is supposed to get over 45 miles per gallon in the city and over 60 miles per gallon the highway!
Will the Smart car be popular here? I don't know. Still, the equally adorable little Mini Cooper has become popular, thanks in part to the movie "The Italian Job."
Hey, maybe I'll get a Smart car, color it pink, and paint Hello Kitty faces all over it. OK, not really! Besides, it'd look silly compared to the (I'm not joking) hot-pink Hello Kitty Ferrari.
UPDATE 1: Oh, OK, the new Volkswagen Beetle is cute too. But a friend of mine rode in one, in the back seat. She said she smashed her head against the roof every time the car hit a bump in the road.
UPDATE 2: Some other people do not like the Smart car at all. The video clip of the Smart car hitting a normal car in a crash test is -- I confess -- rather frightening. Should I just get a Volvo? Aren't Volvos supposed to be very safe?
