Taiwan: China Airlines to Change Names?
There's a rumor flying around that China Airlines will soon change its name. The reason is sure to be political, since the Taiwanese carrier has the name "China" in its name and this could be seen as . . . er, problematic by some people.
I've no idea what the airline's new name might be. Then again, how about "Cute Taiwanese Airlines"? The island is obsessed with cute things, after all. Remember the Hello Kitty jet plane? That thing was so cute it was terrifying.
I'll keep an eye out for headlines about the China Airlines story. I even have a relative who is a pilot for a Taiwanese airline, along with a cousin who was a flight attendant. Personally, I don't like China Airlines (sorry, China Airlines). The airline has in recent years undergone major changes and improvements, so I probably should fly it and try it, but my airline of choice to and from Taiwan is still EVA Air -- an airline that actually serves edible food sometimes! Plus, by the way, EVA Air has an excellent safety rating.
